Positioning

Mitel Networks 5200 IP Desktop Portfolio
The Mitel Networks 5200 family of IP telephones represents an evolution in functionality, ergonomics, and style at the desktop. Through the introduction of these new phones the user experience is enhanced with a new look and feel that elevates the power of the IP desktop devices to a new level. Through extensive customer dialog and user focus groups a new handset design was implemented combined with improved display contrast and better tactile button response.

With these new additions, the Mitel Networks IP desktop portfolio becomes the broadest in the industry, with devices and peripherals to meet all levels of business. Working across Mitel Networks 3100 and 3300 Integrated Communications Platforms (ICP), and the SX-200 IP Node, the addition of these new IP phones provides unparalleled choice and flexibility to the user.

The Mitel Networks portfolio of desktop IP devices and applications is quite simply the most comprehensive on the market today. Which is no surprise, because we have close to three decades of experience and expertise in enterprise voice communications ? unlike most suppliers of Voice-over-IP.

Ours is the only complete portfolio of desktop IP devices that provide feature access and functionality superior to today's most sophisticated digital business telephones. Features include superior voice quality, ergonomic design, and intuitive access to advanced IP applications, call control features, and network services. And, of course, they respond to the diverse needs of users across the entire enterprise - from the shop floor, storefront, to the front desk, corner office, contact centre, and meeting room. Put the power of IP in the hands of your users today, with Mitel Networks IP Desktop.

Design Distinction
In order to achieve design distinction the 5200 IP Desktop family incorporates five key design components: the handset, the interchangeable center graphic panel, the orange LCD, the chrome speaker ring and the subtle concave surface of the set. These components of the design are essential to providing an overall unique and identifiable appearance, which thereby, increase brand recognition.

The Handset
- With the 7 inch low profile handset we try to reflect a new reality where the compact size factor know from cell phones, cordless phones, etc., is generally very accepted. Many personal home phones are increasingly going towards a more compact, cell phone sized handset.
- Like the previous handset the new handset has a removable cord for untwisting, and changing. However, because the connector for the curly cord is not recessed into the handset like the 4000/5000 series handset, a cord de-tangler can now be used.
- Rubber overmolding provides a comfortable, warm grip area.

Interchangeable Graphic Panel (Customizable Center Panel)
- Allows for brand customization and is any easy way to change the overall appearance of the set through a change in color or graphics.

Orange LCD Display
- The orange LCD is distinctive (not widely used in many telecommunications products)
- The warmth of the orange backlighting is less glaring to the eyes, yet provides an optimal contrast level.
- This orange color for displays is being widely used in high-end consumer products such as those manufactured by Sony and BMW. This is a good association to have as these products are usually considered 'leading edge'.

Chrome Speaker Ring
- The one most identity-giving element is the chrome-plated silvering around the speaker. The color combination and to some extent the physical design can also be found in high-end cars, Hi-Fi Audio equipment, etc. By leaning on quality icons already work into the market we position ourselves on a similar level just in a different product category
- Apart from giving the sets an expensive look, it aids in market identification -- in the future you might hear someone remark "Ah yes, the phones with the silver rings".
- The circular icon has also been carried over into the design of the center panel designation card. It is also a subtle representation of the circular Mitel Logo.

The Concave Curve
- The sets are kept simple with elegant dimensions. Coloring and detailing make the sets almost understated. The concave curve of the main surface is one of these strong yet subtle and understated design elements that aids in achieving the distinct quality of the design.
- It is a nice contrasting design element to the convex key shapes.
- Because of the sleek design of the curve set, the new 5200 series phones give the appearance of a smaller footprint on the desktop. The 5201 is distinctly smaller yet fully functional IP Phone.

Overall
Overall our attempt in the design of the restyled sets is to offer elegant desktop appliances with an immediate impression of uncompromising quality. The 5200 IP Phone family reflects the fresh, new image that Mitel is projecting through its new marketing campaigns and reinforces its aim to be a more user centric company (it's about you!). Ultimately, these efforts combined will lead to the brand recognition, which is critical for Mitel to succeed in today's market.

Our IP Desktop Family is evolving with a new sophisticated look:
? Sleek, stylish, sexy new plastics give more of a "Family" appearance
? Customizable panel for re-branding, customer logos, unique graphics requirements, color, etc.

Integration of systems / sets / applications is the true benefit of IP:
? NO user training ? IP phones behave the same way as all other phones do
? User-friendly user interface
? Introduces applications like visual voice mail ? instead of standard voice mail prompts and listening to messages sequentially, you will be able to see who has left you a message, the time of call, its urgency, and the soft keys will change to reflect logical commands making them context-sensitive
? Allows for many combinations with something to satisfy every customer ? from low cost options to high end IP appliances that meet everyone's needs
? Integration of the desktop devices: the PC, the phone, the PDA ? individually each piece carries value to your business, therefore allowing them to work together increases their value as they can now share information.

Product Description / Features & Benefits

The Mitel Networks 5201 IP phone provides just that - a very inexpensive desktop IP solution. The 5201 IP Phone is primarily a low cost, single port set. It is an IP equivalent of a low-end POTS phone. Ideal uses for this phone would be in common areas such as lobbies or waiting areas, or manufacturing or warehouse areas that do not require a PC to be connected to the phone.

Mitel Networks 5205 IP Phone
While the Mitel Networks 5205 IP Phone will work across both the Mitel Networks 3100 and 3300 IP Platforms, the 5205 IP Phone is a key set, designed and introduced primarily for the 3100 ICP. Mitel Networks 5215 IP Phone
Mitel has introduced handsfree speakerphone capability and a new backlit display to the 5215 IP Phone. This gives our VARs a lower price point for handsfree functionality for those competitive bids. Our customers will be pleased that the quality handsfree audio that they are used to is now available on another phone in the family.

The 5215 IP Phone is a dual-port IP telephone with programmable function keys, a 20-character backlit display and a built-in speaker with half duplex handsfree operation. Mitel Networks 5240 IP Appliance

5412 & 5448 IP Programmable Key Modules for the 5220 IP Phone
Mitel Networks has redesigned the 12 and 48 button Programmable Key Modules (PKMs) with the same gentle concave curve and sophisticated styling as the 5200 Series IP Phones. In addition, there is a new IP PKM Interface Module designed specifically to integrate into the back of the new 5220 IP Phone. The new model numbers are the 5412 which is a 12-Button IP PKM and the 5448 which is a 48-Button IP PKM.

The Mitel Networks 5412 IP Programmable Key Module is a device providing 12 additional personal keys for Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone. The Mitel Networks 5448 IP Programmable Key Module is a device providing 48 additional personal keys for Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone. Each personal key on the 5412 IP PKM and 5448 IP PKM can be programmed as a feature key, a Direct Station Select (DSS) key, a speed call key, or as a line appearance key.

Both devices have the same functionality, however the user has a choice between smaller (12 button) or larger (48 button) IP PKM unit, depending on their personal needs. Both PKMs attach to the 5220 IP Phone via the modular cable and a 5422 IP PKM Interface Module which attached to the back of the 5220 IP Phone. Both IP PKMs can be directly attached to the 5220 IP Phone so that it physically acts like a single device.

Note: On the 3300 ICP and SX-200 IP Node, up to two 5448 IP PKMs can be attached to the 5220 IP Phone for 96 additional keys.

Minimum software requirements for the 5412 and 5448 IP PKMs are as follows:

    3300 ICP: Release 3.3
    3100 ICP: Release 4.0
    SX-200 IP Node: LIGHTWARE 19, Release 3.1

    5310R IP Conference Unit
The 5310 IP Conference Units that are available on the 5020 IP Phone now have a new restyled side control unit that connects to the new 5220 IP Phone and uses the same acoustically superior saucer. The 5310 IP Conference Units enhance the functionality of Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone to deliver superior conferencing functionality to typical boardrooms or smaller private office. The 5310 IP Conference Unit is targeted for use in larger conference rooms. Best performance is achieved in rooms of up to 20' x 30'.

Superior Quality Conferencing in Any Boardroom
The 5310 IP Conference Unit is a full duplex IP conferencing unit designed for optimal use in any meeting room up to 20' x 30' that is equipped with a Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone. The 5310 IP Conference Unit features Mitel Networks' exclusive beam-forming array technology that automatically focuses the unit's microphone on individual speakers to eliminate background noise and side conversations. It can also be set to presenter mode to focus exclusively on one key speaker. Combined with built-in noise reduction, automatic gain control and full duplex operation, this technology supports natural conversations and collaboration without the distractions.
Superior voice quality at both ends of conversation
? Combines beamforming array technology, noise reduction, and automatic gain technology to focus microphone beam on lead speaker and eliminate background noise and side conversations
? Presentation Mode allows the microphone beam to be fixed on one speaker, allowing the parties on the other end of the conversation to easily follow the presentation without interruptions from side conversations and background noise.
? Full Duplex operation for a more natural conversation, with conference participants being able to contribute to conversation at any time, without cutting into each other
? Single LAN drop to the conference room, no separate analog port required
? Simple to install (plugs into the adapted Headset Port and power port of the Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone)

    Simple to use:
? Good ergonomics and user friendly interface
? Control Unit attached to the side of the 5220 IP Phone and additional (optional) wired Remote Control with duplicate controls, for ease of use in situations when the speaker unit and the telephone set are on two different tables.
? Easily accessible RJ45 LAN on the 5310 IP Conference phone makes it easier to plug in that additional IP device (i.e.: laptop to access the presentation or make notes from the conference)

    Direction Indicators
? Integrated LED direction indicators provide conference participants visual confirmation that the unit is receiving their voice. These are especially useful in the round table discussions and other unstructured sessions where the feedback of participants is fully required.
? Direction Indicators allow each person at the table to receive visual confirmation that their voice has been registered with the unit (corresponding LED will be turned on when the beam receives participant's voice)

    Remote Control
? Optional wired remote control unit for situations where the IP Boardroom Conference Unit and the 5220 IP Phone are on different tables.

    Voice QoS
? Supports 802.1p/q for quality of service.

    Compression Support
    ? G.729, G.711

    Powering Options
? Requires 24VDC power adapter, purchased separately

    Colors
? 5310 Saucer available in 2 colors: Night Sky (Dark Grey Matte) and Silver Ghost (Metallic Silver)

    Configuration Information
    Platform Requirements:
The Minimum System Software required to support the new 5200 Series IP Phone, Appliances and Peripherals is:

    3300 ICP, Release 3.3
    3100 ICP, Release 4.0
    SX-200 IP Node, LIGHTWARE 19, Release 3.1*

    * Note: The SX-200 IP Node does NOT support the following IP Phones: 5205 IP Phone and 5240 IP Appliance.

    Multiple Powering Options
Multiple powering options are available for the IP Desktop, giving the user more choice and ensuring Mitel Networks IP sets and peripherals are ready for the industry changes in powering the desktop:

AC Wall Power Adapter: ideal for situations where it is not practical to make significant changes to the network and AC power is readily available at each desktop.
Ethernet / AC Power Wall Adapter: ideal for situations where it is not practical to make significant changes to the network or where back up power is not important to the user. This optional unit has two sockets, one unpowered LAN input, one powered LAN output, and plugs into an AC Power source.
Spare Pair Power (based on IEEE 802.3af standard): This powering option uses the spare pairs of wires of the Ethernet cable (2 out of the 4 pairs, which are not used for signaling). The advantage of this option comes from the fact that it is easy to add it into the existing network and selectively power devices. However, it tends to be more expensive per port than power adapter option, because you also need separate power generating equipment.
Signal Pair/Phantom Feed (based on IEEE 802.3af standard): This powering option sends power on the same pairs of wires that are used for signaling. This may require replacement of non-powered switches and hubs with powered devices therefore this power option may be more cost efficient for new installations. It saves one port per user and it does not require separate power generating equipment, which is normally required for spare pair option.
3300 ICP Power Dongle (Cisco-Compliant): The 3300 Mitel Power Dongle (P/N 50002922 for a 10 Pack) is Cisco compliant. The 3300 ICP now allows Mitel IP Phones (5201, 5205, 5215, 5220, 5230 & 5240) to be powered from specific Cisco equipment. This can improve the cost effectiveness of a Mitel solution for a customer who has invested in Cisco data infrastructure, by utilizing that infrastructure to deliver power to the desktop devices.
3300 ICP PowerDsine 24-Port Power over LAN Hub: This unit (P/N PD-6024/AC) is IEEE 802.3af compliant and does not require power dongles to power Mitel Networks IP phones. Benefits of the new hub are that it ensures uninterrupted network operation by providing a "power safe" path to the user, utilizes an advanced discovery process to detect Power over LAN enabled terminals and protect legacy endpoints, supplies an affordable connectivity solution for any Ethernet terminal, provides tools for battery and main power management, and furnishes an easy and cost-effective installation with fewer cables and outlets.

NOTE: Power Adapters are NOT included with any of the 5200 IP Phones, Appliances, or Peripherals because of the different powering options available and because of the global powering requirements. These must be ordered separately as required. Please refer to the Powering Options Table for power requirements.

Which IP Phone do the new 5412 and 5448 IP PKMs connect to?
They connect only to 5220 IP Phone. When used behind the 3300 ICP and SX-200 IP Node, two 5448 IP PKMs can be connected to a 5220, providing up to 96 additional keys.

Do I have to buy a power adapter separately when I connect the 5412 and 5448 IP PKMs to a 5220 IP Phone?
Yes, power adapters are necessary. The 24VDC Power Adapters are NOT included in any of the 5412 or 5448 IP PKM Kits. They must be purchased separately. The following are the part numbers for the required power adapter:

    50000690 24VDC IP Power Adapter, 120V, 60Hz
    50000687 24VDC IP Power Adapter, 240V, 50Hz

Is a separate power adapter necessary if 5240 IP Appliance is powered through LAN?
No, when 5240 IP Appliance is powered through LAN, the power adapter is not required. Power Adapters are only required to support the 5240 on the 3100 ICP if the number of IP Phones on the 3100 Controller exceed 8.

Is the 5810 PDA application Software included with the 5240 IP Appliance package?
No, the PDA application software has to be purchased separately. The IrDA module is built-in, so there is no need to purchase any additional hardware. PDA Applications Software is available to be ordered under a separate part number or can be downloaded directly from Mitel On Line.

    Is 5240 wall-mountable?
No, the new design does not allow the phone to be wall mounted.

Are the power adapters shipped with the new 5200 IP Phones?
No, the power adapter for the set has to be purchased separately. Due to the fact that we are now giving our customers choices in how they want to power their sets (by providing support for power adapters, spare pair and signal pair power), power adapters are not included with the set. Please refer to the Powering Options Table for further information on the various power choices.

Can two 5310 IP Conference units be used in a very big conference room (larger than 20' x 30')?
No, this is highly not recommended. The beamforming algorithm is space and speaker position dependent. Having multiple units in a room will not make the audio quality any better. In rooms larger than this, the 5310 IP Conference Unit is not a good fit. Mitel will address very large spaces with later releases of the conference products.

Is a separate power adapter necessary to power the 5310 IP Conference Unit?
Yes, the 5310 IP Conference Units need their own 24VDC IP power adapter PN 50000690 or 50000687).
Power adapters are NOT included in the box; they need to be purchased separately.

Does conference unit need a separate IP address or does it use the same one as the 5220 IP Phone it works with?
The IP conference units do not need a separate IP address. Because they are peripherals, 5310 IP Conference Units share the IP address with the 5220 IP Phone they are attached to.

Is there a new restyled model of the 5305 IP Office Conference unit for use on the new 5220 IP Phone?
Mitel Networks has decided not to introduce a restyled 5305 Side Control for the new 5220 IP Phone. What we have done to address this particular requirement is to bring the pricing of the 5310 IP Conference unit more in line with the older pricing of the 5305 and thereby making it an attractive audio conferencing application that can be used in both the office and the boardroom.
